About the Species
The African Black Ostrich (Struthio camelus) is the world’s largest living bird species. Renowned for their inquisitive and personable nature, ostriches are highly hardy creatures capable of adapting to a wide variety of climates.
Housing & Enclosure Requirements

Fencing: Enclosures should feature sturdy fencing at least 5 to 6 feet in height. Woven wire or smooth, non-abrasive livestock fencing works best. Avoid barbed wire.

Space: Ostriches thrive on room to run. Long, rectangular runs (sprint tracks) are preferred over square pens to accommodate their natural stride.

Shelter: Provide a dry, windproof lean-to or shed for protection during extreme weather and freezing conditions.
